This summer, serve milkshakes for dessert. First, place glasses in the freezer to get them frosty. Set out an elaborate display of toppings such as candy pieces, sprinkles, nuts, small cookies, marshmallows, pretzels, and anything delicious and fun for guests to choose and place in their shakes. Have the blender available and lots of whipped cream!
The Perfect Vanilla Milkshake
½ cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups vanilla ice cream
Chill the milkshake glass in the freezer. Place milk, vanilla, and ice cream in blender and blend until thick and smooth. Pour into chilled glass and finish with whipped cream and toppings.
Yield: 1 large milkshake
Chocolate Milkshake
Add 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup to vanilla milkshake recipe.
Strawberry Milkshake
Add ½ cup sliced strawberries to vanilla milkshake recipe.
Delicious Mix-Ins
Add a swirl of peanut butter, a chopped banana or other fruit, or a few chocolate or butterscotch chips.
Low-fat Milkshake
Substitute frozen yogurt or sherbet for the ice cream.
Malt
Add 2 tablespoons of malted milk.
Old-fashioned Soda
Stir in ginger ale or soda after making the milkshake, but do not blend.
