This almond torte is one of my favorite recipes because it is so delicious and versatile. It is perfect with morning coffee or brunch, but add berries and whipped cream and it is an elegant, delightful dessert to end any meal with a pleasant memory. ALMOND TORTE
1 1/2 sticks butter, melted
1 1/2 cups sugar, plus more for sprinkling
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9-inch springform pan with foil, and spray with non-stick baking oil spray. Sprinkle with sugar; set aside. With mixer, cream butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar; beat in eggs and flavorings. Stir in flour. Pour into prepared pan and sprinkle with sugar and almonds. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Yield: 16 dessert servings or 36 small servings.
